Character Information
Character Name: Bilbo Baggins
Fandom: The Hobbit Movies

Character History:
Bilbo Baggins was born on September 22 to his parents Bungo Baggins and Belladonna Took. He was a curious little hobbit from a very young age and at many of the Shire festivals, would be engrossed in the stories told by Gandalf the Grey, fascinated by the idea of dragons and kings and warriors and great battles. This curious and adventurous side never left him, even after the death of his parents, which lead to him inheriting Bag End. Many thought he was more like his father and the Baggins side of his family in general, at least until he started to disappear for days at a time to meet with strangers in Bree and simply explore the world around the Shire.

And then the day came that Bilbo Baggins left on his greatest adventure yet.

The old wizard Gandalf came to visit Bilbo and while the hobbit didn't seem to want anything to do with what the wizard had to say, found himself the subject of the man's attention and curiosity. The day after the wizard's visit, Bilbo found himself playing host to a number of dwarves that showed up on his doorstep--thirteen to be exact--and the wizard once more returned wherein the hobbit was informed that his skills were needed on a quest.

A quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain alongside the company of Thorin Oakenshield.

Bilbo wanted nothing to do with it at first but, the next morning after the dwarves had left, the hobbit realized just how badly he did want for an adventure and took off after the company to properly join them with signed contract in hand. It was not an easy journey in the least, the company facing many perils along the way including mountain trolls, orc hunting parties, annoying elves that the dwarves seemed to despise, battling stone giants and just about anything else that the world deemed fit to sent their way. While the dwarves, Thorin especially, were initially wary of Bilbo at first (and even he was unsure if he had made the right decision), the hobbit proved himself time and time again, the first being after he was separated from the group when they were captured by the goblins.

It was during this solo adventure that Bilbo crossed paths with the being named Gollum and managed to outwit him in a battle of riddles, stealing from him an odd golden ring and escaping via it's ability to turn the wearer invisible. Bilbo managed to follow the escaping dwarves out of the mountain and rejoin them once more, despite their initial assumptions that he had seen his chance to leave and taken it.

Not long after this the group found themselves being hunted by an orc hunting party led by Thorin's archenemy Azog the defiler and Bilbo proved himself once more by saving the dwarf king, giving the others in the company a chance to regroup and hold the orcs back until the eagles came to their aid.

From there the company made their way through Mirkwood, which was a trying experience in itself and were captured by the elves--though yet again Bilbo managed to avoid capture. While Thranduil had no intention of letting the dwarves go, Bilbo was able to steal the keys to the dungeons and release the dwarves, leading them into the cellar where he used barrels to help them escape. Afterwards they crossed paths with Bard the Bowman and managed to buy his services to sneak them into Laketown so they could be that much closer to the mountain. They were eventually discovered and after Thorin made his promise to the town, which Bilbo vouched for, the Master of Laketown agreed to give them weapons and armor and a boat to use on their way to the mountain. Several party members stayed behind due to an injury that had befallen the youngest of Thorin's nephew, leaving them with four fewer than they had initially planned.

But it mattered not.

Due to Bilbo's cleverness, the group found their way into the mountain and it was here that Bilbo's job truly started. He was sent down into the hoard of treasure to locate the Arkenstone, which would have been quite easy were it not for the large dragon Smaug that was hoarding over the treasure. Using his wit, Bilbo managed to avoid getting eaten and, having secured the Arkenstone in the process, regrouped with the others and they managed to outsmart the dragon, encasing him in gold. It would have been brilliant and well executed had Smaug not survived and managed to free himself, breaking from the mountain and heading to Laketown which he sent up in flames before being killed by Bard the Bowman.

But that's another story.

Back in the mountain, Bilbo and the others watched Thorin fall into madness brought on by the gold sickness and while the hobbit did his best to help the king, he kept the Arkenstone from him, knowing that it would do nothing but make things worse. It wasn't until Thorin denied the survivors of Laketown help that Bilbo made his decision and snuck away in the night to hand the stone over to Bard, Gandalf, and Thranduil. When Thorin learned of his betrayal the next day, he almost killed Bilbo but was stopped by Gandalf and several of the company members, the hobbit then banished from the mountain by the gold sick king.

That didn't stop him from rushing to their aid in the midst of battle though when everything seemed to go to hell.

Bilbo found Thorin later in the battle, the dwarf king no longer sick due to the gold, and warned him of the trap that had been set and the army that was on their way over the mountains. In the battle that followed Bilbo was knocked out and it wasn't until much later, after Azog had been slayed by Thorin's blade that the hobbit awoke to find the dwarf king dying. He stayed by the king's side until his last breath, something breaking inside the hobbit then even with the battle won. He didn't stay in Erebor long after the battle's conclusion, heading home to The Shire a few days after the burial of Thorin and his nephews.

---
Bilbo Baggins has always been something of a curious fellow. Unlike most hobbits, he has a want for adventure that is born from the curiosity that fuels his actions, the hobbit always wanting to learn more and see things with his own eyes. It was this sense of adventure that spurred him to leave his home for almost two years, traveling the lands with a group of dwarves to help reclaim their lost home.

Very un-hobbit like if you ask any others that live in The Shire.

Bilbo's want to learn is generally blamed on his mother and while he use to try and hide that part of him in the past, he's embraced it over the past few years thanks to the quest he agreed upon. He's a bit of a sponge for knowledge and won't hesitate to listen to anything and everything others have to say to him, absorbing their stories and explanations readily and storing them away for later use. The hobbit is rather quick to pick up new traits as well and always willing to try something new if the situation calls for it, even if he's not that great at it in the long run.

There is a courage inside the hobbit that most would not expect, Bilbo never hesitating to stand up for those he cares for or for what he believes in. It doesn't matter if he's about to face down an orc or an angry dwarf or even a gold obsessed dragon; Bilbo Baggins rarely backs down. Sure, he may regret his actions after the fact and curse himself for being so impulsive but it's these impulsive and courageous actions that have saved many of his companions over the past few years and his regret is short lived most of the time.

Bilbo is very clear and quick witted. He has a knack for solving problems that others can't seem to figure out and, if he can't find a solution, he can usually talk himself out of any sort of situation by generally just keeping someone going around in circles until a solution does present itself. Most would not expect such a simple creature like a hobbit to have such a clever mind and Bilbo generally uses that to his advantage, surprising any and all around him time and time again. His love of learning has helped develop his mind into a problem solving machine, riddles and mysteries generally not a problem for the halfling making him a very good person to have around if you're having difficulty with something.

Now, never let it be said that hobbits are nothing more than just gentle creatures because Bilbo has a fiery spirit and temper that can make even the angriest of dwarves take pause. He doesn't take kindly to others insulting him or his loved ones and will not hesitate to put them in their place, only really thinking about the repercussions after the fact. He's generally pretty good at keeping his temper in check, able to turn it into bubbling annoyance more than anything else but when his temper does flair, keep out of his way and do as he says because he really isn't going to take any sass that others may want to throw his way.

And speaking of sass, Bilbo has become quite good at throwing his own sass around, rather sarcastic and dry at times when others are starting to get on his nerves. He's perfected that unamused look that comes with annoyance and is quite good at staring someone down with said look until they cower and relent. His sass can and has gotten him in trouble before, since most of the time it slips out before he can stop himself because no proper hobbit would act like that! But it happens and he rolls with it the best that he can. Other times? He just doesn't care and if he has to get sharp and sarcastic with someone to make a point? You bet your life he will!

Despite how aloof he can try and pretend to be at times, acting as though he wants nothing more than privacy and seclusion, Bilbo flourishes when he's around those he truly cares for and considers friends or family. (Though the Sackville-Baggins don't count because he would rather deal with mountain trolls over them, thank you very much.) When he cares for others, he cares with all his being and will do anything he can for them without hesitation. He worries and frets like a mother hen, scolds and berates like an upset father, encourages and fuels tricks like a crafty uncle and protects those he's close to like a proper guardian. Bilbo wants nothing more than to see happiness come to all those in his life and when that doesn't happen? It chips away at his heart a little more each time.

Which is where the great sadness within him comes from.

After the events of the Battle of the Five Armies, a deep sadness gripped the hobbit and the light that once burned brightly inside him has dimmed a bit. He's a little more reserved now, keeping his sadness buried as deeply as he can, mourning in private when he needs to and keeping to himself in general. There are times when he can be found sitting by himself staring out at nothing as he smokes his pipe, caught up in thoughts and memories of times before. It's a deep sadness that will take time to heal and Bilbo knows it; he's just not sure if he has the strength to work past it sometimes. Only time will tell just how long it will take.

Powers and Abilities:
+Hobbits, in general, are very good at not being seen if they don't want to be seen and can sneak around without being noticed quite easily.
+Does eating more than the normal being count as an ability because it's rather impressive how much such a little creature can eat.

Network:
[It had taken Bilbo several days after his arrival in Nautilus to really grasp what the network was all about, confused and fascinated by it all at the same time. So say hello to your new hobbit-y resident, Nautilus, because he's finally attempting to use the network.]

Ah--yes, hi. Hello. My name is Bilbo Baggins and I am a new arrival to this odd place, I suppose is the best way to put it.

[He clears his throat, forcing his hands into the pockets of his jacket as he smiles awkwardly.]

I doubt there really is a better way to put it but yes, well, we'll go with that. Right. This whole network...thing is quite odd so my apologies if I don't use it all that much right away. It has been a few days since I arrived, actually. I just wasn't all that sure what to do.

[At all. This place was so strange and he really just wanted to be back in Bag End right now.]

Enough of that though. Would anyone be kind enough to explain to me how this, ah...thing--

[He reaches out then to tap the comm device.]

--works? I can't say that I have ever really seen anything quite like it before. Also, how long are we expected to stay here? I'd very much like to go home as soon as I can. I've had quite enough adventure for one lifetime, thank you very much.

[The hobbit smiles again but this one is far more forced and he gives a bit of a nod before turning the video off with a bit of fumbling.]

Third Person:
As soon as the comm device was off, Bilbo let out a heavy breath, tension seeping out of him as his shoulders sagged and he sank down to side on a rock outside of the welcome house he'd been led to initially upon his arrival. His hands shook as he held the device in them, eyes closing tightly for a moment as he attempted to steel himself once more. The last thing he wanted, or needed, after returning from Erebor was another adventure, especially one where he was all on his own. He had yet to find anyone he was familiar with, no Gandalf, no dwarves, no elves--and, to be honest, it was overwhelming.

He sucked in a breath and let it out slowly then, relaxing his hold on the comm device so he could tuck it into his pocket alongside the ring that no longer worked as it once did.

So very troublesome this place was.

"I suppose I should find something for supper," he mused to himself with false cheeriness, trying to keep his thoughts from straying once more into despair and sadness as he stood from his seat and immediately set about smoothing out his vest then adjusting his jacket. It was odd, in a way, to once more be wearing the clothing he had left behind in The Shire, and for a moment Bilbo was struck by the irony of it. He'd left the Shire in similar clothing, lost them along the way and took to wearing things completely different, and now, after everything, was back to trying to be like his old self; even when he knew that he was nothing like the hobbit that had left had left originally.

A bitter laugh escaped him before he could stop it and he reached up to pinch the bridge of his nose.

"Oh what those dwarves have done to me," he murmured weakly, lingering for a moment before his hand dropped and he started back towards the welcome house, a hand slipping into the pocket of his vest to toy with the ring as that false cheeriness appeared on his face once more.

No reason to worry strangers, right?
